Empowering Futures: Dr. Chelsea Nkechi Onwudinjo’s Role in Establishing a TVET University in Uganda
The founder of the Back Home Initiative, Amb. Dr. Chelsea Nkechi Onwudinjo played a pivotal role in the establishment of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) university in Namataba, Uganda. At the time of this landmark project, Dr. Onwudinjo was part of the core team responsible for setting up the university, leveraging her experience as a government liaison, international campus coordinator, and Business Development Manager at Limkokwing University.

The collaboration between Dr. Onwudinjo and the late Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, Uganda’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, was instrumental in ensuring the success of the university’s establishment. Together, they helped to lay the foundation for an institution that would transform technical education in the region. Their efforts focused on making the university accessible to Ugandans, with a strong emphasis on scholarships to empower citizens with the essential skills needed for national development.
The TVET initiative sought to address critical gaps in the region’s education system by providing opportunities for skills acquisition, which are vital for sustainable growth and job creation. The partnership exemplified the power of collaboration between government officials, international institutions, and educational leaders, all united in their commitment to improving Uganda’s future.
